When it seems like one thing, but it’s actually something else

Bay St. Louis was calling to the Grill-Meister and me, so we took a quick weekend trip to this very charming seaside enclave in Mississippi. We learned about “The Bay,” as the locals call it, from a follower of the Glover Gardens blog – you can read all about that here in the story: Epic Seafood Boil Memories from Bay St. Louis Mississippi.

Crabs from Shoofly Magazine’s post about the 2018 Crabfest– photo by Lionel Haynes, Jr.

We loved the town, as we suspected we might, but I was so busy enjoying it that I didn’t get many pictures. It’s ok, though, because we know we’ll be back. But I did get a few photos of seagulls; they looked so compelling as we drove along North Beach Boulevard where the bay meets the Gulf. At least, I thought the photo was of the gulls. But as I was cropping and editing them during our 6-hour car ride home, I realized that the real subject was the sky. I thought it was ugly and gray and one-dimensional, but it had a personality all its own in the photos.

I have so much to learn.

Sky with Birds – color
Gathering Beneath an Ominous Sky – black and white

I should have taken more photos.

Next time, I will.
