When this COVID-19 trouble is over, I’m going to visit Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Richmond, Texas, which was founded in 1865 just after the Civil War by former slaves.
The church was profiled in a video by my friend Amy Robinson, who is a digital storyteller. Amy credits Ms. Sharon Stone, Mt. Vernon UMC, with providing the history. Click the video below and you’ll see why I want to go.
Thank you to Amy for letting me repost this here, which I do in celebration of Black History Month. and also because the story is interesting, the history is important, the people are warm and welcoming, and the singing is joyful.
I think we all need a little more joy these days, don’t you?
