i’m a bee right now, landing on memory-flowers
maybe i can make them into honey
maybe that’s a way to share you
with those to come
those you never knew
those like me who want more
an endless jar of memory-honey
sitting on the pantry shelf of my heart
halcyon father-daughter days
golden and sweet
transformed into words
you were the essence of goodness and light
that’s why I want to share you
with those to come
those you never knew
those like me who want more
~ i’ll be making memory-honey for the rest of my days

This is just another little poem from a grieving and grateful daughter – I’m sure there will be more as I process this new life in the world without him. Thank you for reading it and allowing me to share my remarkable Dad. For more about him and the amazing childhood he and my mom made possible:

Beautiful testament to the love you have for your beloved daddy.
Thank you, Tammy. I struggle to do with words what you do so amazingly with pictures.
Oh my, this truly made my ears well up. From all of us who never knew him, we can certainly see that he deserves your ongoing love and honor.
oh gosh! “eyes”
Thank you so much.
A beautiful poem… so sorry for your loss.
Thank you so much. The lines are blurred now, but the meaningfulness of what he was in my life will never be dulled.
You are most welcome.
Beautiful tribute poem for your dad, Kim. He lives on through you.
Thank you so much, and yes, of course, that is so profound and true.
A poignant tribute, Kim, and I love the idea of an endless jar of memory-honey sitting on the pantry shelf of your heart. My father’s anniversary is coming up in a few months, and I’ll think of your:
‘halcyon father-daughter days
golden and sweet
transformed into words’.
Thank you, Kim, and I’m sending you good juju for the anniversary, that you can mine from the depths of your sorrow the sweet treasure of memories.
That’s so kind. Thank you.
The opening line is such a hook! Stunning write ❤️❤️
Thank you, Sanaa, I really appreciate your praise.
What an absolutely beautiful illustration, poem and idea: memory honey. I can feel the wishing…the loving memories here….the repetition makes the feeling of wanting to share these special memories and feelings all the more real. Memory honey…..I don’t think I shall ever forget that idea. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Lillian, I’m so glad the analogy touched you.
I love the way my Mother used to say “my cup runneth over” and “be still my heart.” Both came to my mind as I read your sweet, endearing poem. My heart hurts for you, with you.
Thank you, Helen, your Mother sounds lovely, and I can hear those phrases from my grandmother, in my mind.
This is just beautiful, Kim. I love that you’re writing poetry as part of your process, as you navigate this new chapter, creating that “memory-honey” as you do. I think this is lovely, important work. My sympathies to you~
Thank you so much, Jennifer, I really appreciate your affirmation.
A beautiful way to honour your dad’s memory 🌸
A lovely metaphor for the processing of loss – beautiful…
Kim, this is such a beautiful write. The metaphor so suitable and stunning. Take care, my friend. ❤️
