I recently had the great pleasure of being a guest on the Stan Garfield Fab Five podcast, and I’m still carrying the warmth of that conversation.
This wasn’t an interview about titles or résumés. It wasn’t about my work, which is how I met Stan.
It was a human conversation — about where we come from, what we love, the people who shape us, and the stories that stay with us. I felt deeply honored to be invited simply as me.
Stan’s questions and excellent listening skills pulled simple profound statements like this:
“The highlights truly, Stan, are the people.”
We talked about many of the things that live here at Glover Gardens: food, travel, books, music, laughter, family, and loss. Some moments were tender and vulnerable, touching on grief and memory; others were light and joyful — including one small (and now well-documented) baseball reference I managed to get totally wrong. Fortunately, grace and good humor prevailed.
Stan’s reflections on my stories were so validating:
“It sounds like you had the best of everything.”
I left the conversation feeling heard, stretched, and grateful — reminded once again of the quiet power of shared stories, told honestly and heard with an open heart.

Backstory
Stan is one of my top knowledge management gurus, someone I’d like to be when I grow up. He has done everything, worked everywhere, learned everything, and knows everyone. (He would NEVER say that – this is my perspective. Stan is a very humble guy.) He is a consummate knowledge-sharer who has written numerous books, mentored dozens of hungry-to-learn professionals and inspired many, many more with his lessons learned and reflections. He created and leads the world’s largest and longest-running KM community of practice. He’s also really, really knowledgeable and interesting about art, books, movies, music, food and sports, and more importantly, really, really nice.
I was over the moon when I got to share the stage with Stan for the first time at KMWorld in November of 2025, along with Tiffany Smith from NASA. We had a GREAT time sharing our stories and lived experiences, and connecting with attendees.

Stan was honored with an inaugural KMWorld Community Award at KMWorld in 2024, and I had to get a fan-girl picture with him afterward. It’s not my best look, but I was so happy for Stan, and so proud to be in his tribe.

Gratitude
Thank you, Stan, for the invitation to join your podcast, and for the generosity you bring to these conversations. You have added to my life experience in both a personal and professional way, so I’m adding this to my new “What We Mean to Each Other” series. #youmattertome
And thank you, dear readers, for always meeting me where story, memory, food, and joy intersect.
As always — tell me what this sparked for you.

Lovely! I didn’t have time to listen to a whole hour, but now I know what you sound like and can hear your posts in your own voice.
Loved this! It’s clear you have so much respect for Stan. Rightfully so; he’s a legend on our field. And 1000% agree savory over sweet. Yet another reason we get along. 🤩
P.S. This is me, Kim. WordPress thought I wanted to be your anonymous stalker 😜
