Hello to all my jazz-loving peeps! Our Musical Millennial, AKA Thomas Wenglinski, has a cool gig on Friday night, July 19, in Austin, Texas (AKA “The ATX”, if you’re a local). It’s at Monks Jazz. Whether you’re in Austin or not, you might want to check out the Thomas Wenglinski Septet, findable on Instagram at @monksjazz. If you’re local, shows are at 8 pm and 10 pm—and I’ll be in the front row at the late show. But you can stream from anywhere in the world – join me virtually, if you can!
The lineup is:
- Thomas Wenglinski – Keyboards (currently getting his DMA in jazz studio arranging @ @froststudiojazzwriting at the @univmiami )
- Paulo Santos – Woodwinds
- Aaron Garcia – Trombone
- Kimberly Zielnicki – Violin
- Mark Scott – Guitar
- James Suter – Bass
- Gavin Moolchan – Drums
- and featuring vocal guest Amanda Bellitto
This will be a lively concert with a combination of jazz originals and instantly recognizable standards, guaranteed to make you feel that Fri-YAY feeling. Here’s a link to a previous recording that Thomas and. select group of musicians played at Monks:
And here’s another, posted here in the Glover Gardens annals:
I won’t try to hide that I am super-proud of my almost-doctorate son. One more year at U Miami and I’ll have to call him “Dr” Thomas!
All bragging aside, the concerts are wonderful, whether in person or live-streaming. I hope to “see” you there!
