I’m Still Traveling, but Glover Gardens Bloomed and Decorated Itself for Christmas

Hello friends! Are you finished decorating for the holidays (if that’s something you do)? At Glover Gardens, we haven’t even started. I’ve been traveling quite a bit since late October and have been on my current trip since the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I won’t be home ’til the end of the week… how did mid-December get here already???

We’re not totally devoid of holiday cheer, though, because the yard decorated itself! Check out these pictures of our Mahogany Splendor hibiscus that I took just before I left. It’s supposed to bloom from July to October, but ours never gets revved up until Thanksgiving.

This hibiscus variant is amazingly prolific and sturdy, with gorgeous foliage that ranges from reddish to green to almost silvery. I’ve posted about Mahogany Splendor before, having enjoyed this beautiful plant for several years before a wicked, wicked freeze felled it. I couldn’t find it at local nurseries but ordered seeds online and got numerous plants from just three seeds.

I arrived in the UK from Norway yesterday, and Grill-Meister texted photos of the yard to me, including a message that the ‘humans, cats and plants’ miss me. 😍 (I miss them, too!) The first plant from his text below is called a Yuletide Camellia, and the second is a Scentimental Floribunda Rose, the candy-striped variety.

What’s happening in your yard just now? Is it covered with snow? Or are you in a more tropical climate? Do you have cutouts of Santa Claus and Charlie Brown frolicking in the front yard, or reindeer on the roof? Please share!

  • Poor, traveling baby. I was gone from 2 June until 20 November. I came home from time to time on tour breaks, but by the time you recover you leave again. Yard? Yard you say? Our 82 acres is not completely decorated.

    • Gosh, did it sound like I was complaining? Not at all. I’m privileged to travel and don’t mind being behind on holiday decorating. Maybe we won’t do it at all this year. I don’t think I could take a stretch as long as yours without a long break in the middle.

With 82 acres, there could be lovely hidden Christmas surprises when you explore it. Or perhaps there have been already… 😊
