We’re in a Mardi Gras mood! We’re in Bay St. Louis at Gumbo Cove for a long weekend and it just happens to be the weekend before Mardi Gras. King cakes are everywhere, along with green, gold and purple beads. There are tons of small parades and Mardi Gras celebrations in coastal Mississippi over the next several days that fit our laidback approach — we’re not going anywhere near the big-bang shindigs in New Orleans. We haven’t decided which one(s) to attend yet, but today we’re looking back at the Gulfport Mardi Gras parade from 2022.
The Grill-Meister and Me: All Beaded Up
It was so fun to be in this medium-small American Gulf Coast town, hanging with the locals and just enjoying the vibe. You’ll see the festive spirit in the pics, starting with The Grill-Meister in his beads and an “it wasn’t me, I’m innocent!” pose.

I had even more beads, and my ‘big camera’.

Everyone around was happy to pose for me. It makes me feel joyful just looking at the pictures and all those happy faces: from parade-watchers to dancers, high school bands to parade royalty, bead throwers to bead catchers. This was a family-friendly celebration: zero debauchery and maximum delight.

Let the good times roll, y’all!

Looks like lotsa fun. 👏🏻
It WAS! Way more than we expected. A serendipitous occasion, for sure. I bet you’ve had those, too – times when you had low expectations and the reality blew you away.
Very true. Which is why it is often better to have low expectations…
