Living with the Dichotomy

A heron stopped by Gumbo Cove while I was there doing more cleanup from Hurricane Zeta. I had the camera nearby and snapped a few pics of her with the zoom lens.

Because of the extreme mucky mud still covering much of the yard between us, I couldn’t venture out to find an angle on this beautiful bird that didn’t include some debris from the hurricane. I thought as I shot, “I’ll just crop it out.”

But then, looking at the photos, I realized that the debris alongside the beautiful, vibrant bird is just another example of life’s dichotomy. A small one, but timely, and ripe with meaning and metaphor. Enjoy her.
