In response to today’s prompt from dVerse, a quadrille poem (44 words) that incorporates the word “spin”. It is a dark poem, but sometimes dark things must be brought into the light.
The Narcissist Tailspin Web
the pathological narcissist
spins their web
of gaslight lies
churns a maelstrom
of self-doubts and
“why trys”
spineless bully
isolates victims
schemes to traumatize
fueling tailspins
of broken friendships
and goodbyes
escape while you can
– run, don’t walk! –
save yourself; cut all ties
I haven’t suffered from narcissistic abuse, but I have seen it and the damage it can do to a person. Here’s an article with suggestions for recovering, and here’s another with ways to help victims.

If you’d like to learn more about the prompt and the quadrille format, hop on over to dVerse. And if you’d like to read other quadrilles utilizing the word “spin”, click here to see the list. I promise, they’re not all as dark as mine. 😌

So true. Well written poem.
Thank you, Arcadia!
Good one: save yourself, cut all ties.
Thank you, Grace!
Your quadrille took off right from the first stanza! 😀
Thank you, Carol!
When I saw the title I knew it would be good! I researched the topic a few years ago as a neighbour/friend’s attitude always seemed bizarre to me, in v unpleasant ways…horrible to have a partner like that, causes neighbour is bad enough!
I’m sorry you are having to deal with that! I’ve read that narcissistic tendencies are on the rise, which is scary to me. But good fences make good neighbors, right?
Definitely,,, horrible manipulation and attempts to destroy character, then sudden change if in public.
Narcissism is hard for everyone (and usually for the narcissist also)
That’s true, Bjorn. I think the right combo is actually a “save yourself first” approach and then get help for the other, as with the oxygen mask on a plane.
this conveys so well the metaphor of insect in the sticky web – a powerful poem indeed
Thank you, Laura, it is a sticky web, indeed
So true, a powerful poem! I think too many don’t see how or when they’re stuck in that web.
Yes, it’s like that old phrase, “fish can’t see water”…
Yes, you’re right.
Good advice…narcissists weave a sticky web!
Luv the caution. Nice one.
Thanks for dropping by to read mine
