This post with a poem was written in response to a prompt from the dVerse Poets Pub and inspired by the perfect place settings at Skibo Castle in Scotland, which captivated me when we visited for afternoon tea last summer. Oh, the lovely meals one would have at these gloriously-set tables!

The dVerse prompt from poet De Jackson requires the use of the word “place” and a poem of any style with only 44 words, AKA a quadrille. Click here for more about the prompt.
So here we go!
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
sumptuous, lavish
bucket-list luxury
elegant place settings
crystal and silver
beckoning, gleaming
twinkling opulence
promising decadence
seats at the table:
a perfect one for you
a perfect one for me
we don’t do this often
(we tell ourselves)
eat, drink and be merry

Skibo Castle’s Afternoon Tea was a Once in a Lifetime Treat
Skibo Castle was Andrew Carnegie’s home in northern Scotland, and it is breathtaking. While we weren’t able to partake in the dinner that the tables were set for, the afternoon tea we enjoyed was wonderful, delectable, and memorable, and also surprisingly unfussy. We felt so welcom and pampered. There’s more about our experience in the post below.

Beautiful! You’ve taken us on the experience with you. Nicely done.
I’m glad you felt you were there, De! That’s why I write, for the most part. To share.
Sounds like it was an experience to cherish! You captured the place well with your words, Kim.
Thank you so much! That validation means a lot to me.
Love the poem and photos! Cheers!
Thank you!
How perfectly lovely!
It was! I’m so glad I took pictures.
Awww, i enjoyed the happiness this poem brings. 🙂
Sorry for the late read…..
Ah yes….I do so enjoy those special times when we set a beautiful table! Somehow, I think it also makes us slow down and savor our meal and the conversation more!
Lovely images. “twinkling opulence” sums up your quadrille!
I saw this comment first thing this morning and have to say:
Melissa Lemay, you made my day!
