I had the pleasure of spending time this weekend with our Musical Millennial this weekend in Austin, TX (AKA ATX), where he’s a junior at the University of Texas, studying Jazz Composition.

There was an event going on…a big ol’ multi-faceted conference you might have heard of called South by Southwest, or SXSW, as it is commonly known. Traffic-wise, I could have picked a better weekend to be in Austin, although there was a strong creative vibe from this celebration of music, film, education and technology that draws hundreds of thousands of attendees from over 100 countries and over ten thousand artists, educators and techn-whizzes.

Trying to keep a regular cadence of posts here in Glover Gardens, I woke up early on Saturday intending to write, but I felt the call of the camera instead. With three hours before I was due to collect my son for a great day together, what kinds of pics could I collect as the city was just waking up to get ready for another day of this international event?? What would the dawn look like in downtown ATX??

It was a great decision! I’m not sure I got terrific photos, but I had a wonderful time out in the quiet of the dawn.
Parking will be at a premium in just a few hours Streets are already blocked off for later A lone bicyclist Sixth Street, as quiet as it will ever be Street sweeper on the way – he waved at me! ATX is quiet before another day of SXSW
It ended up being a great day, and I’m glad I started it with an early morning appreciation of a great city.
Love the photos. They tell a wonderful story in and of themselves, and then there is the writing. Wonderful and good feelings from reading this. Thank you kindly.
