Mortality: They Will Conjure Me

Written in response to the dVerse Poets Pub prompt from Lillian: write a quadrille poem (44 words only) that includes the word “imagine”.

mortality: they will conjure me

aging

i imagine
my image reflecting
in tide pools
of reminiscence

ripples gently
lapping at
loved ones’
memory banks
on the shores
of what we
made together

with laughter and
salty tears
they will conjure me
with imagery
in the tide pools
of reminiscence

The trust and regard of my loved ones is bedrock, and I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I have imprinted upon them.

I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I will remain with them even when I’m reduced to ashes in an fancy urn.

I know this in part because those memory waves of laughter and salty tears lap at the banks of my own memories of lost ones.

I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, but when I do, I’m not going far, just transforming into sunlight sparkles on the waves, ripples reminding of what we made together, those days of cooking and wine, stories and trust, laughter and imagination, acceptance and love.

You know who you are.
