Written in response to the dVerse Poets Pub prompt from Lillian: write a quadrille poem (44 words only) that includes the word “imagine”.

mortality: they will conjure me
aging
i imagine
my image reflecting
in tide pools
of reminiscence
ripples gently
lapping at
loved ones’
memory banks
on the shores
of what we
made together
with laughter and
salty tears
they will conjure me
with imagery
in the tide pools
of reminiscence
The trust and regard of my loved ones is bedrock, and I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I have imprinted upon them.
I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I will remain with them even when I’m reduced to ashes in an fancy urn.
I know this in part because those memory waves of laughter and salty tears lap at the banks of my own memories of lost ones.
I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, but when I do, I’m not going far, just transforming into sunlight sparkles on the waves, ripples reminding of what we made together, those days of cooking and wine, stories and trust, laughter and imagination, acceptance and love.

You know who you are.

“on the shores
of what we
made together”
Beautiful.❤️
Thank you, Melissa. I love your poetry, too.
I love the phrase ‘tide pools of reminiscence’, Kim, and the ‘memory banks on the shores of what we made together’.
Thank you, Kim, I feel inspired by your validation!
You’re more than welcome, Kim.
The tide pools are wonderful metaphor for our memory….
Thank you, Björn, and sorry if you got a zillion notifications for comments. For some reasons, all my replies stuck to your comment like glue and I had to go move them to their rightful places. Maybe that’s a sign. 😊 You’re a magnet! I appreciate your kind words.
This is absolutely beautiful and truly resonates with me. We’ve already told our children, and put our request in our will….we want our ashes to be tossed upon the ocean at Provincetown….our beloved happy place on Cape Cod where we go two weeks of every year. I have many a photo of the ocean and the birds flying and gathering as you’ve shown here. Sympatico!
Aww, love being sympatico with you, Lillian, I have really come to admire you through your work and prompts! The Cape Cod place sounds awesome, and I can fast-forward to the future and imagine your kids remembering you there, in the sound of the gulls, in the wind in their hair.
Kim, I love how you’ve woven together imagery of tide pools and emotional reflection to create a poignant portrayal of the enduring impact of shared experiences and connections!
Sincerely,
David
Thank you, David, I’m glad you recognized the truth in it!
Kim, this is beautiful and moving and showcases your strong familial bonds. ❤️
Thank you so much – they are the MOST important thing to me.
You are so welcome, Kim. I thought so. 🙂
Beautiful! You express the kind of immortality we all hope to have so well.
I think you have it, Anabel!
I love the happy memories this brings. In the end, may it be all that our loved ones will remember of us.
Lovely verse and reminders Kim.
Omg, such a touching poem. Truly a delight to read. ❤️
Thank you! I’m honored.
