Tribal Connection
accidental poets, empaths, drinkers
those who rescue stray people and lost cats
birders who wait under bridges for bats
you are my tribe, and also the thinkers
mountains and waves and birds: my headshrinkers
walking with them, o such thoughts i begat!
nature spurs wisdom, and with me they sat:
accidental poets, empaths, drinkers
spin me your stories, lonely freethinkers
i’ve got time to listen—let’s have a chat
we’ll dispel despair with a baseball bat
you are my tribe, and also the thinkers
accidental poets, empaths, drinkers
you are my people, my heart’s habitat
you are my tribe, and also the thinkers

Poem written in response to today’s dVerse poetry challenge, requiring that we use the Villonnet format, which was entirely new to me. What a fun challenge! The elements of the Villonnet are:
- *a poem in 15 lines, made up of 3 quatrains followed by a tercet.
- *metric, iambic pentameter.
- *rhymed, either keeping the 2 rhymes of the Villanelle or eliminating the second rhyme of the Villanelle and rhyming only the anterior lines of the stanzas. A¹bbA² abbA¹ abbA² A¹bA² or A¹xxA² axxA¹ axxA² A¹xA² x being unrhymed, or A¹bbA² accA¹ addA² A¹bA².
- *Line 1 is repeated in Line 8 and Line 13. And Line 4 is repeated in Line 12 and Line 15.
If you are a poet or poetry-lover – or even just poetry-curious, I hope you will go read a few of the other poems, here.

That sounds like a wonderful tribe… just hanging out with them sounds amazing
Your villonet has a tribal beat to it, Kim, and I love the thought of accidental poets – perhaps we all are and why we congregate at the Poets Pub.
Yes! And thank you for the kind words, Kim.
You’re most welcome, Kim.
I love the tribal connections with these accidental poets. I can feel your sincerity with this post. And your ending tercet is my favorite part of the villonnet:
accidental poets, empaths, drinkers
you are my people, my heart’s habitat
you are my tribe, and also the thinkers
Yes! Those are my people too!
Simpatico!
Excellently done, Kim. It’s good to find your tribe.
Kim, you had me at the first line. Cheers!
Very clever and creates so much community feeling.
Thank you so much for visiting, and for your affirming comment. It means a lot.
