Without guile, sarcasm, irony, mockery, I-Told-You-So-ism, satire or derision, the message I wish to share today is this Kingston Trio song.
I wrote about it once before, here.
It is my wake-up song, and this morning, I knew it was right for inauguration day. It is hopeful.
Here are the lyrics.
Ally Ally Oxen Free (McKuen / Yates)
Time to let the rain fall without the help of man
Time to let the trees grow tall, now, if they only can
Time to let our children, live in a land that’s free
Ally, ally, ally, ally, oxen free
(Ally, ally, ally, ally, oxen free)
Time to blow the smoke away, look at the sky again
Time to let our friends know we’d like to begin again
Time to send a message across the land and sea
Ally, ally, ally, ally, oxen free
(Ally, ally, ally, ally, oxen free)
Strong and weak, mild and meek, no more hide and seek
Time to see the fairness of a children’s game
Time for men to stop and learn to do the same
Time to make our minds up if the world at last will be
Ally, ally, ally, ally, oxen free
(Ally, ally, ally, ally, oxen free)
And a recording of the song.
We begin again. Time to send that message, across the land and sea.
I wish you peace, I will work for peace, and I hope you will say your piece.

Love this! I hadn’t hear this song before but it is the perfect song for today.
We had my wife’s sister on Zoom to watch the day. When “, la” first appeared, they were crying. They never thought that they would see a woman and an Indian as a vice president.
That means comma la. Read it out loud.
Peace.
Perfect song for today.
Dave Guard was my late father-in-law’s college roommate. We’re big fans in this household.
What an unbelievably small world it is, Sharon. I really appreciate hearing that story. I’ve been a fan since birth because of my parents, who had the pleasure of seeing the trio live, more than once. Their music is so fun, and yet also so simple and poetic.
