Our Musical Millennial Interviewed at the International Jazz Composers Symposium

Glover Gardens followers know that we like jazz here, and we particularly like it when it is composed or performed by our Musical Millennial, AKA Thomas Wenglinski. He’ll be a senior at the University of Texas this fall, studying jazz composition with piano as his instrument.

Thomas submitted one of his compositions for consideration at the International Jazz Composers’ Symposium, and was selected for their poster session at the conference. Co-sponsored by the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers (ISJAC) and the University of Northern Colorado (where it is being held), the symposium started on Thursday and concludes today. I was thrilled last night to see that there was video from the session he was part of. I couldn’t be there because our amazing and wonderful daughter-in-law (AKA The Girl Who is Always Hungry) was graduating with her Master’s in Higher Education Student Affairs from Baylor, which took precedence, but it was awesome to see the video.

I know that you’d have to be very invested in our Musical Millennial to scroll to the 5:00 mark and actually watch his interview and description of his composition…but maybe one – or three – or seven of you will do it. Regardless, I am so proud! He was the youngest composer/arranger who was officially chosen to present at the conference, and it was a great experience for him. And I thank you for rejoicing with me, whether you watch the video or not.

Life is good. It is so fulfilling as an empty-nester to watch your fledgling take flight and soar. #proudparent #diditonhisown #happyemptynest #jazzyfuture

  • This is really the work of a seasoned musician and it is beautiful smooth jazz, the kind you could listen to all day. I think it is incredible too that he has such a wonderful relationship and respect for his family members. What a joy to have someone like this in your family. I appreciate music, especially jazz and classical and the blues very much. These are my favorite kinds of music along with relaxation music. I really love it. Thank you so much for sharing it. I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond. My significant other, Richard, just had major neck surgery and was in surgery 5 hours. He is home, but still needs major care so it is a bit of a struggle. But when i listened to this beautiful music, my spirit was calmed significantly. Thank you so kindly.
