I love love love Thanksgiving because it’s the ONLY holiday that’s ONLY about the food, meaning, it’s the ONLY holiday that’s about loved ones getting together and sharing a meal. No presents, no pressure, no problems!
I’m happy to host and cook on Thanksgiving, and that’s our usual state. But some years, like this year, we don’t have our people. Both of our boys, although grown, are with their other parents or their inlaws. No problem, we’ve headed outta town and landed at Gumbo Cove, our little bay house in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
In my head, I’ve shared a “Thanksgiving Roundup” post with recipes every year, but actually, the last one was in 2020. Really? How did 4 years fly by that fast? I can’t figure it out, but I know from looking at the stats on the blog that you are really, really interested in Thanksgiving recipes. I feel so validated!
So here’s a Thanksgiving Roundup post for 2024, with many recipes that have been Thanksgiving-referenced before, and a few more that are worthy of this most chill foodie holidays.
Thanksgiving Breakfast
Give these muffins a try. They embody the holiday spice mindset.
Or take some time the night before and go big!
Or do as my family does on every shared Thanksgiving and Christmas morning, and make Sweet Potato Biscuits. Can’t go wrong with that unless there’s a butter shortage!
Or maybe you need some breakfast casseroles!
Appetizers and Starters
Let’s move on to the big meal.
Try a vegetable grazing board as an opening act for your Thanksgiving performance.
This one is getting a lot of hits this week, and why not? Shrimp is a perennial favorite on a holiday appetizer spread.
A dip is a good thing.
Or if you want to start with a plated salad, my friends, check this out!
Mains
I don’t have too many original recipes for Thanksgiving main dishes, because it’s either turkey or ham, right? But we do have some ideas, guidelines and best practices from others, which are getting lots of hits this week.
How about Spatchcocking your turkey?
Or do you want to deep-fry your turkey, safely?
Sides
The sides are what make my heart sing at Thanksgiving. So many options! So many traditional vegetable ideas to respect in their traditional format or turn on their sides (pun intended) and create something new, different and delicious with. Here are some of our faves, both old and new.
The Creamed Corn
Brussels Sprouts No One Can Hate
Broccoli Salad Even Broccoli-Haters Have to Like
Dressing
Our famous North-South compromise dressing.
Sweet Potatoes
A new favorite, a definite foodie choice.
Green Beans
Another new favorite, a way to dress up green beans like they are going to the prom!
Butternut Squash Soup
If you wanted to start with a soup, either of these is a WIN.
Condiments
Are you serving turkey? Ham? Prime rib? Perhaps you need a condiment or two:
Desserts: The Sweet Ending
Some old favorites, and some new favorites.
Happy Thanksgiving, Y’all!
Happy Thanksgiving, wherever you are. Even if you are not in the U.S., I hope you will use our holiday to think of your blessings and enjoy a wonderful meal. If you ARE here in the US of A, let me know what the star of your Thanksgiving table is, and what you are grateful for. I am grateful for every click of my recipes, telling me that this little hobby is worthwhile, and most importantly, for my family and friends.
