The Best Contagion: Laughter

Our international cousins came to visit last month! We shared the meal that they made for us with you in Giant Pork Dish and Spaetzle Made with Love by the German Cousins, but there are more stories to tell. There are always more stories to tell.

Can you believe that giant pork chop???

Hilarity on the Patio

In contrast to some Glover Gardens posts with a serious subjects (like yesterday’s), this one is a little puffball of silliness, namely, our male cousin’s reaction to the choices of drink charms the Grill-Meister offered him for his martini glass. And the spontaneous, lasting, contagious laughter that ensued.

Oh how therapeutic laughter is! Can’t you feel it just looking at them? This is one of the favorite pictures I’ve ever snapped. I have no idea if it’s “any good” by photography standards, but it makes me happy every time I look at it.

Also enjoying the hot Southeast Texas afternoon and laughter on the patio at Glover Gardens were these German lovelies.

The Backstory about the Risqué Drink Charms

If you looked closely at the drink charms in the Grill-Meister’s hands, you may be asking yourself, “Why do they have ridiculous drink charms in the shape of voluptuous models in bikinis? The Glover Gardens folks seemed relatively modern and enlightened until now. Surely Kim of Glover Gardens wouldn’t sign on to something that objectifies women…”

Why indeed!???

Well, it’s like this. At Christmas, our stockings get stuffed with many things, some of which are downright silly. Drink charms started showing up in our stockings several years ago, starting with cute little birds that perch on the edge of a glass for me, and cats that curl around a stem. Oh, and last year, llamas. All perfectly acceptable in mixed company. For the Grill-Meister, my sister-in-love and nieces have gone in a different direction, with the bikini girls, who have names like Sassy, Candace and Ginger, and T-Rex dinosaurs in Santa hats. We have them all together on the odds ‘n’ ends shelf in the bar.

The Grill-Meister knows that Candace and Ginger and the other gals annoy me, so he only get them out when we have guests. 😉 And as you can see, our German cousin loved all the charms. He chose three: a Santa dinosaur, a black cat, and Sassy, in her orange bikini, deemed “a tiny Barbie” by his wife.

The Laughter Continues

I shared these pictures via text with my sister-in-love and nieces to let them know that their stocking stuffers were a hit, and repeat the “tiny Barbies” comment, and we had some fun with it.

Niece: “What a perfect description! 😂 So glad they’re still getting some glass time!

Me: “They only come out when ‘boys will be boys’.”

Sister-in-love: “I’m sure when the Ginger, Candy, and the girls, are not in use, they’re studying little books of literature and philosophy, having discussions and debates.” 🧐

Me: “That’s true! After all, there’s nothing wrong with being young, looking good in a bikini, and occasionally taking a dive into a Chardonnay. 🙂 It doesn’t mean you ain’t smart.

No Apologies for this Puffball of Silliness

I warned you at the beginning that this was not a serious post, but I hope you’ve been able to laugh with us – or even at us. Laughter is the best medicine! And aren’t our cousins wonderful? You can just tell by looking at them how fun they are.

Wishing you a day full of laughter and love.
