I happened to be in a rural Walmart the other day, and the holiday decorations were – get this – polyester stockings haphazardly thumbtacked to the wall with the price tags dangling. I put this in the Why Bother category; it was so tacky I couldn’t even bring myself to take a picture, but here’s a reasonable facsimile from their web site (just imagine the thumbtacks and the price tag).

By comparison, at Heathrow Airport in London, the decorations are minimal, tasteful, whimsical, and, reminiscent of Goldilocks, in the Just Right category (in my humble opinion). I know, I know, it’s a little nonsensical to compare a Mississippi Walmart to Europe’s largest airport, but just go with me on this.

I snapped this year’s Heathrow example while race-walking to my gate a couple of weeks ago. The little bauble images on the tree have the London Heathrow acronym on them, LHR, which is just a hint of commercialism without being in-your-face about it. I wonder whose job it is to decorate the industrial-feeling hallways at Heathrow duding the holidays? I think I would like that person.
Because…it’s the little things. 😊 What little things are catching your fancy this holiday season?
This holiday season? A little thing? A steak in Argentina.
LOL, that’s not a LITTLE thing…!!! I’d love to see a picture. Did it have chimichurri with it? I am definitely having food envy.
We have get there first. It’s the last stop.
I really like that purple tree!
Me, too! Enough to whip out the camera and snap the pic as I strode purposefully by, LOL. 🙂
