spring forward
the green of asparagus
and oak trees
the fluttering of wings
and dandelion fluff
rerooting us in
the reality
that nature is
still in control
of her seasons
spring backward
a silent killer
slithering among us
exhausted workers
and overfilled morgues
rerooting us in
the reality
that COVID-19
controls its spread
(unless we distance)
spring sideways
passing others
at the grocery store
wearing our masks
(smiling with our eyes)
rerooting us in
the reality
that our distance
doesn’t keep us from
connecting
spring back to our future
resilience
empathy and love
are the strongest
contagions
rerooting us in
the reality
that our humanity
and sanity will control
our destiny

That’s very, very good. Can we put a melody to it?
Goodness, of course! I’ve certainly used plenty of your photos to accompany my posts.
I actually said to the Grill-Meister yesterday during Friday cocktail hour after we both shut down our computers and stopped working, “Wouldn’t it be cool if someday…?” about the same idea. You know that I was inspired to write by the poem you directed me to, right?
Thank you. I kinda thought so. You’d get a music credit and royalties if this ever came to something.
All I really need or want is y’all’s regard and friendship.
But, ASCAP won’t allow that
Great poem
Thank you! It’s definitely from the heart.
Wonderful poem.
Thank you, Lidy. Stay safe out there.
