Time to get jazzed up for Christmas!
Now that Thanksgiving is over, I have some Christmas jazz to share with you, the University of Miami Frost School of Music’s Swinging from the Holidays Concert, streamed from YouTube. The holiday performance was on November 15, the only time they could squeeze in this fun annual tradition with the busy academic calendar and the lateness of the Thanksgiving holiday. Being a holiday purist – meaning No Christmas Until After Thanksgiving!! – I held off on posting this concert until now. Christmas can officially start, because Thanksgiving has had its moment.
If you’ve been following Glover Gardens for awhile (or even since yesterday’s post), you’ll know that our Musical Millennial, AKA Thomas Wenglinski (my son) is in the final year of his doctorate in Jazz Studio Arranging at U Miami, and that we love to watch the concerts when they stream, loving it even more when we can go in person.
This year’s concert is jam-packed with really good arrangements of holiday classics, performed by a stellar U Miami jazz orchestra, many of whom are grad students, with wonderful singers from the vocal program.
The whole concert is fun! We’ve been playing it as background music while making Christmas lists and plans all morning.
How are you getting jazzed for the holiday season?
